I Do Windows

Changes Are Coming!

Posted in Uncategorized by Arcadia on June 18, 2013

I’m currently in the process of redesigning this blog and changing the name!!!

I Do Windows will become The Fashion Teacher.  This will allow me to combine my fashion classes into one cohesive website, instead of directing the styling students to the visual merchandising blog.  It was always confusing for them!

Once it’s up you can still click on here for a while, but it will redirect you to the new site under its own domain name – The Fashion Teacher.com – I’m excited because I’ve been wanting to do this for a long time now, but time is my issue (I don’t have enough of it)!  I finally found a web company that is friendly and easy to work with, to help manage it for me.

I’m also excited for some new ideas I have for the site.  I want to continue to post instructional articles, but also showcase more work from students, and other readers.

If there is anything you would like to see on the site let me know.  I would love to hear your suggestions and feedback.

Thanks for reading!

Coming soon…..

Posted in Uncategorized by Arcadia on May 22, 2012

I’m in the middle of finals week for my classes, but I’m hoping to gather my notes and post the interviews of Ken Ferraris – Visual Manager of Barney’s NY (San Francisco location) and Terry Guiterrez, Visual Merchandiser of Macy’s (San Francisco location).

They were both kind enough to come to my class and speak to my students on the industry and what it takes to make it as a successful display person.

Here’s a tidbit: The number one pressing question everyone writes in and asks, as well as all my students:

“Is a portfolio of past work necessary in a job interview?”  The unanimous answer was YES!!!!!!

Welcome Back!

Posted in Uncategorized by Arcadia on January 27, 2012

Hi All,

I’ve been feeling so guilty because I haven’t posted in a while, especially since I’ve acquired quite a few new subscribers!  I haven’t abandoned my blog :), in fact I should be back to posting soon, as my new visual merchandising class began last week (I have 50 eager students – I’m sooo excited).

My assistant AND accountant have been on an extended vacation since the holidays, so I’ve been left to fend for myself, in my business and classes, and it’s been a tad bit overwhelming.  I didn’t realize how much I relied on my help until I lost it.

I hope you are all are doing well!  Thanks as always for supporting my blog and hanging in there with me!

Ciao-Ciao,

Arcadia

Welcome and Thank You

I want to say thank you to all my subscribers!  I started this blog as a way for my students to keep track of what we discussed in class and now it has blossomed into something bigger, thanks to all of you.  I’m so grateful and I sincerely hope you find the information I post here informative.

Some of you have written me with questions around research papers you are doing for school, and I am more than happy to answer your questions and help in any way I can.

Thanks for reading!

Visual Merchandising Jobs

Posted in Uncategorized by Arcadia on July 14, 2011

Following up on the post below:

After you’ve completed your education and it’s time to find a job I would suggest following VisualMerchJobs on twitter.  They tweet daily jobs from all over in visual display!

It’s Finals Week!

Posted in Uncategorized by Arcadia on May 18, 2011

Sorry for not posting lately. It’s finals week for the classes I teach, as well as the final week for the construction program I manage, and I’ve had an industry event to attend almost every night!!!!!

AND – I made the foolish mistake of actually allowing my students to turn in late assignments.  Great for the students, bad for me.  Each student should have turned in 12 papers for their store studies by the end of this semester.  MOST of my students waited until the last day to turn them in.  Take 40 (students) and multiply that by 12 (written papers) = lots, and lots of reading for me!

Take note next semester students, I will no longer be accepting late assignments!

I should be back to regular posting next week, as I have a lot of stuff to share with you.

Thanks for your patience!

I’m on Twitter……finally!

Posted in Uncategorized by Arcadia on April 1, 2011

I’m finally on Twitter.  Since my office hours are so sporadic, someone suggested I get on Twitter so my students in all my classes (I teach in the construction department and engineering as well), can get a hold of me, or at least known where to find me.

What a clever idea this Twitter – don’t know why I didn’t think to use it sooner.  I won’t only be tweeting my whereabouts, I like that I can keep you apprised of other interesting things I see; such as the Balenciaga/Spain installation at the de Young Museum I will be attending soon.  I love it when they bring their fashion exhibitions to town!

Ciao for now…..
